I was born into a family of readers. When I was small, my elders read the classic fairy tales to me. After I learned to read, my mother took me to the public library to check out books. At the time, stories were part of the fabric of the universe, magical things that sprung into being much as plants grow from the ground.
When I was in third grade, my teacher read Little House in the Big Woods to the class and told us about the author, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Then it dawned on me that stories are written by actual people, and that little girls like myself could grow up to write books. It was then that I first aspired to be an author. I began writing when I was ten, nothing of great substance, of course. And I would tell stories to my brothers and sisters when we camped out in the back yard. One of those stories eventually evolved into my first novel.
Over the years, I dabbled in writing off and on. I majored in Literature at Eckerd College. But life, as it so often does, intervened. Work and family left me little time to write. Then I retired. The next day, I sat down to pen that first novel, The Long Road to Namai, which I published in two parts, Trials by Fire and Quest for Namai. Writing is as essential to me as breathing.
I live in North Florida in a modest house in the woods. I love to grow things and share my knowledge of gardening with others. I also love to travel, home or abroad, and my small RV takes me on many adventures. Fortune has provided me with a vibrant writing community, The Writers Alliance of Gainesville. We help and inspire one another in our endeavors. It goes without saying, I also love to read, every genre of literature, fiction and nonfiction alike, to push the envelope of my mind.
You sound very interesting, Marie! I can’t wait to spend some time reading your posts. 🙂

You children and grandchildren will really appreciate you keeping your family stories alive. Many people today seem to have little interest in their family’s past until it is too late. Also, thank you for the nice comments you left on my site. I am glad you liked the stories, even if they were a bit odd.
